Winemaker Andrew (Andy) Myer got his start in the wine world in 2006. While earning a degree in Environmental Science from Willamette University, he answered a craigslist ad for a part-time job working in the tasting room at the storied Cristom Vineyards in the Willamette Valley. Within 15 minutes of driving up their drive for that first interview, the lightning bolt struck. He knew that wine would become his life’s work, and that part-time gig quickly became a full-time obsession.
Early on he realized the importance of palate training and working with a wide range of winemaking philosophies, grape varieties, and wine regions. While his start was making world class Pinot Noir in the Willamette Valley, he soon journeyed to New Zealand, Australia, Washington and California, working with such producers as Felton Road, Mark Ryan, Escarpment, Hirsch, Cape Mentelle and William Selyem. This global training encompassed a wide range of winemaking styles and viticultural techniques, which ultimately honed his skills and style.
Throughout his travels and experiences, Andy always kept an eye out for a region that offered the most exciting opportunity without the burden of being overly commercialized. There is no place more exciting to be than the Rogue Valley in Southern Oregon. After relocating with his family to Ashland Oregon , Goldback Wines was launched in 2016.
